What we have here is a failure to communicate. Our Mardi Gra celebration is a mixture of some very volatile compounds. A rowdy male population pumped up on testosterone and a breast induced frenzy combined with Caesars 4th legion. The police are ready for Armageddon. I have noticed this transformation of our police force into a lean mean fighting machine. Our police department on crowd control look like gladiators. I have never seen such gigantic batons industrial strength tear gas guns and each officer has enough plastic ties downs for a small drug cartel. The theory is if we put a clear and present danger in the midst of rowdy men they will be in such fear that they won’t try any shenanigans. It seems our national foreign policy is the same hmmmm. Now the problem with this theory is it doesn’t address irrational exuberance: for example lets say some guy grabs your girlfriends exposed breasts and you punch him but you don’t realize all the guys with the cameras taking pictures of your girlfriend’s naked breasts, while you hold her beads, are his homeys. And they begin pummeling you but everyone else freaks out and starts running and now we have mass pandemonium the police move in like Robert E Lee’s 3rd division on Beauregard’s 21st chopping down the fleeing masses. Austin’s finest light cavalry swoops in from the flank to cut off the fleeing masses swinging batons shooting pepper spray and viola you have hundreds injured and maybe a couple of dead people. All over constitutional right to participate in a mass psychological desire to fulfill immature men’s right to photograph fondle underage breasts. I think we have taken this Fat Tuesday way beyond its original meaning. I mean decadence in eating but this boobaphillia is a little over the top. Not to mention the adolescent girl psychological issue being created I think its amazing the city could be so absolutely stupid in setting up this fiasco. This Mardi Gra is no different than those club fires except we can do something about it now, not later. And overwhelming force isn’t the answer, it’s the problem.
